How much does a cake cost?
The simple answer is: "it depends because every cake is unique". Anywhere from £5, to £50, to £500, to (very occasionally) £5,000.
The longer answer, and to find out how much a cake or cupcakes for you may cost, please read on.
Every cake or cupcake that we create is bespoke and uniquely designed for each customer.

Many customers say that our cakes are "works of art". Our cakes and cupcakes are sculptures created from edible modelling paste, where the cake or cupcake is our canvas, or structure, that we build upon. As a result, the cost of a cake can range from a single delicious cupcake with a name, number, or sentiment for around £5 to show someone you care, through £50, to £500, to (very occasionally) £5,000. It really how much time, and ingredients, are needed.

We pride ourselves on creating edible memories for our customers.

Some customers want to serve lots of people and have one clear and simple message. Other customers - or the same customers for other occasions - may want to serve a small number of people, but with a highly personal and detailed sculpture.

And sometimes, there is a large number of people to serve and the customer wants a statement piece as one of the key focus of their event.

Whether the event is a birthday, wedding, anniversary, baby shower or gender reveal, company event or product launch. Or just to say "Thank you". We aim to be able to create a cake that can fit within an acceptable cost for you.

The main elements that influence the overall cost
2 things that influence the cost most are the size, and the amount of time it will take to design and create.
The amount of time depends upon a variety of things, mainly related to the complexity of the design, but also the size.
Size and related:
-
Number of people to serve/number of servings (this depends how big you make each slice!)
-
Is it tiered?
-
number of tiers?
-
Is it carved? Or regular round or square cakes?
-
Flavours

Amount of time:
-
number of decorations
-
complexity of decorations
-
Is it a "hard surface" cake, such as a vehicle or manufactured item?
-
Delivery?
- The amount of design time
- Gravity! (some designs take longer, just because cakes obey the laws of physics. Sometimes, on complex designs, it seems that cakes are out to get you!)

Other things can influence the cost:
-
Ordering in advance, or last minute. If you order well in advance, we like to thank you, as it allows us to plan and do the best design work. If you are ordering very far in advance, e.g. for weddings in future years, we need to consider the risk of inflation. For example sugar increased 38% between 2022 and 2023. And chocolate increased 17% in 2025.
-
Repeat customers - we love it that many customers come back year after year, or multiple times per year. We will thank you for that with a loyalty thank you.

Do your cakes cost more than a cake from a supermarket?
Yes. We cannot compete with a supermarket on cost. Modern food from supermarkets is generally very safe and reasonable quality. You can buy an entirely reasonable cake from Tesco, Sainsbury's, Aldi, Waitrose or many other places for £10 - £50. They mass produce in very high volumes. If you just want some cake to feed a group of people, and that is your budget, you won't go wrong with a supermarket cake.
If there is a theme that is on trend at the moment - one of the current children's TV shows, there may even be a themed cake for common themes, or that will be entirely adequate to excite your young child's eyes and their friends! These designs are created at scale, and if the supermarket has a cake that matches what you want, at an appropriate price, that will be a perfectly good choice for you.

In contrast, each of our cakes and cupcakes is hand baked in our dedicated cake kitchen. Each decoration is hand crafted, unique to the design for each customer.

A supermarket sells cake as food. We create works of art, that are also delicious to eat.

So yes, our cakes cost more than a supermarket cake. But you get something very different.

How does the cost of your cakes compare to other home bakers?
There are many talented cake decorators across the country, and around the world. Many bake and decorate alone from home either as a dedicated job, or as a part time role. Some of them do so as part of a shop or other business. Each of them has to work out how much to charge for each cake. Some will be cheaper than us, some will be more expensive, depending upon their experience, location, etc. For most cake decorators, each cake is unique, and therefore they will need to quote for your specific design. In some cases they may have a set of standard designs for you to choose from.

Even cake sizes are not standard - cake tins, whether they are round or square, are usually measured in inches. However, that just defines the diameter or width of the cake. The height of the cake will vary from baker to baker, depending upon their recipe. So a 7 inch cake from one baker may be quite different from that of another cake decorator, and almost certainly different to a supermarket.

Therefore how much your cake will cost from any individual cake decorator, will very much depend. So we can't say whether we will be more expensive, or cheaper, than anyone else. But please do bear in mind that when you ask a cake decorator for the price of a cake, they will likely have to do some design work to come up with a final price.
